TORONTO January 31, 2009: One hundred and fifty people paid their money and took their seats in the Univerity of Toronto’s O.I.S.E.* auditorium Saturday to hear the expert witnesses who had been speaking at Michael Schmidt’s raw milk trial address broader questions of the safety, health and politics of raw milk. Guest scientists included Dr. Ron Hull from Australia, Dr. Ted Beals from Michigan, and Dr. Carol Vachon from Quebec City. Other speakers included California raw milk farmer Mark McAfee, raw milk farmer and activist Tim Wightman from Ohio, investigative journalist Pam Killeen, and Toronto chef Jamie Kennedy, as well as local raw milk activist Judith McGill and farmer Michael Schmidt. Journalists and filmmakers were in attendance, as were other dairy farmers from around the province. Pictures will be posted soon. (* O.I.S.E. stands for Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.)
