“It was November 2006 when 25 armed Ministry of Natural Resources closed in on Michael Schmidt’s Glencolton Farms in Durham, Ontario, and confiscated files, computers, and…milk.

What kind of milk? Milk with melamine? No. Milk with listeria? No. Milk contaminated with chemical sanitizer? No, not even the kind of milk you’d get at the Korova Milk Bar. It was raw cow’s milk, and the government still wants you to think it will kill you.

If our government is so adamant about denying Canadians the raw milk choice (the US and half of the US is fine with it), it’s fair that Schmidt push back with some expert science. Enter the Raw Milk Symposium held at U of T’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) this past Saturday with about 150 in attendence. 

The daylong gathering brought out, among others, Australian microbiologist Ron Hull, who specialized in dairy microbiology, and pathologist Ted Beals. Both were in town as expert witnesses in the Schmidt case.

They sat down with me to record a step-by-step explanation of why Michael Schmidt, and Canadians are getting burned by fear-mongering, misinformation, bureaucracy, and big business interests….”

Traffic Report — it’s busy on the Bovine

Traffic has been up to roughly twice it’s normal level over the past week due to intense interest in raw milk issues generated by Michael Schmidt’s trial in Newmarket court. That trial is scheduled to end today, although a verdict may not be announced until a later date. Here is a chart of unique “hits” on the Bovine blog over the past several days:
