CFIA’s May 2-4 lettuce warning

Lettuce pray… That no one notices the warning? That no one gets sick?

“May 2-4 warning

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency picked 3 a.m. Saturday morning of the May 2-4 weekend to warn the public of a serious risk involving lettuce that could be in a lot of salads at your favourite supermarket.

And then it provided an updated and expanded list on Sunday/Monday.

The following Compliments (Sobey’s, Food Basics) salads, product of USA, are affected by this alert.

“In addition, in store produced products containing lettuce such as salads, sandwiches or wraps purchased prior to May 19, 2012 from IGA and Sobeys stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Sobeys, Price Chopper, or Foodland stores in Ontario should be discarded and not consumed,” the CFIA says in a post on its website.

“These clerk-served foods contain lettuce which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.”

That would be the same bacteria that killed a couple score customers of Maple Leaf Foods Inc….”
