Minnesota mom harassed by food police

From David E. Gumpert’s latest post on The Complete Patient blog:

“For consumers of nutrient-dense foods who have assumed that it’s only farmers and managers of food clubs who are at risk in the growing good-food clampdown, the story of Rae Lynn Sandvig may help set things straight.

Sandvig is a suburban mother of four who lives outside Minneapolis, in Bloomington. She began drinking raw milk seven years ago, to counter some health problems, and soon she was buying five gallons every two weeks for her family. Gradually, like other raw milk drinkers, she graduated to grass-fed beef, organic veggies, wild Alaskan salmon, and other such foods. Continue reading

What’s with these people who seem to be demanding yet MORE regulations?

From a story in the Edmonton Journal “The Nanny State runs amok”:

“What do the following have to do with one another: a California lawsuit against McDonald’s Happy Meals, unlicensed pig butchering and raw milk sales? They’re all examples of the nanny-state mentality gone mad.

Just this week it was announced that the American advocacy group, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Monet Parham, a 41-year-old Sacramento mother of two. Parham feels McDonald’s should be forbidden from advertising burgers or chicken nuggets in combination with a free toy because these Happy Meals appeal to children who then pester their parents to bring them to the fast-food chain. Cow Share College Part Two in Durham

This just in from Kimm, who organizes the Cow Share College programs:

Cowshare College – Level II completes process for farmers.

Many of the producers who participated in Canadian Cowshare College – the Basics will be completing the process on Saturday, January 8th, 2011, with a half-day workshop called Cowshare College – Level II.  Most of these participants are considering or starting their own cowshare programmes.  They are or are likely to become members of Cow Share Canada, a grassroots organization that exists to: bring consumers and producers together while meeting Ontario’s regulations/restrictions concerning access to food; to educate and train consumers and producers in food rights and safe production of healthy alternatives; and to act, ultimately, as a voice for those consumers and producers who have serious concerns over the ever-increasing regulation of basic foods.
